Footballs and Netballs Appeal 2010
Can you help Zambian schoolchildren experience the joy of sport by providing a Zambian school with footballs and netballs?

Bauleni Basic School Netball Team, Lusaka
The football project was launched in 1999 and today the Trust provides footballs and netballs to 50 secondary schools each year. It has proved to be a simple and effective way to help children develop their skills and to judge from the letters we receive, it has brought much joy to those boys and girls lucky enough to benefit. Please help us to help them.
Another 50 schools have been covered from the 2009 appeal with more emphasis this time on community schools who are generally short of facilities. This year we will continue to use 'Alive and Kicking' in Lusaka, a non-profit making enterprise that manufactures quality balls. Because the Trust pays them directly through their London office, we avoid freight and customs charges, so it is very cost effective.

Whiteson Chenge
We will have a change of plan this year in concentrating on two specific provinces rather than the whole of Zambia. And we will try to get a balance between secondary and community schools. The distribution process will therefore be simpler. 'Alive and Kicking' will organise the distribution along with Whiteson Chenge who continues to assist us with the administration. Whiteson has been involved with the project for several years now and we are very grateful to him and 'Alive and Kicking.
'Alive and Kicking' is a charity which makes footballs, netballs and volleyballs in Africa. They started originally in Nairobi three years ago and then in March 2007 set up a factory in the industrial area in Lusaka. The Trust decided to use 'Alive and Kicking' as our provider of balls for several reasons: they create local employment in Zambia; their balls are made of leather with a PU coating and are tougher than synthetic balls; they are 20% cheaper than other providers; and 'Alive and Kicking' is endorsed by organisations such UNICEF and WHO, while the Zambian ministries of education, sport and health are all supportive.
