Annual Golf Day - 16 July 2008
The 12th annual competition for the Zambia Society Trust Charity Cup took place on Wednesday, 16 July at the Mid-Sussex Golf Club, Ditchling, organised by ZST President Frank McGovern. His Excellency the Zambia High Commissioner attended and presented the prizes.

His Excellency Mr Anderson K Chibwa, Zambia High Commissioner, with the winning team, the Haywards Heath III: Chris Morgan, David Price, John Sumpter and Phil Williamson (Captain, holding the ZST Charity Cup).
In his address His Excellency spoke of the difference the projects supported by the ZST make to the lives of orphans and other vulnerable children in Zambia, and thanked all those present for their generous donations to the work of the Trust. He also paid tribute to ZST President Frank McGovern (pictured right) whose tireless efforts over the past twelve years have ensured the success of this annual event, raising more than £60,000 in the process.
The weather was perfect (in twelve years we've only once had a shower of rain!) and as usual a good crowd turned out to play and to support the teams, many of whom have no direct connection of any kind to Zambia, but who respond to Frank's charity drive each year with enthusiasm and generosity. Fifteen teams of four competed keenly for the Charity Cup, and players and visitors alike were generous in their purchase of raffle tickets. The first prize was a pair of European flights, kindly donated by British Airways.
Last year's Golf Day raised over £5000 and though we don't yet have the final figure for this year, it looks as if it will be a record. Check back here soon to find out!
And finally, please make a note in your diary now: next year's Golf Day will be on Wednesday 8 July 2009.
